The SENER Foundation receives the Rafael Izquierdo Award for Solidarity at the 2020 Caminos Foundation Awards

Madrid.- The SENER Foundation has been presented the Rafael Izquierdo Award for Solidarity with the candidacy “The SENER Foundation Volunteers”, as part of the 2020 Caminos Foundation Awards, which are presented annually by the Spanish Association of Civil Engineers through its 2020 Caminos Foundation.

The awards were presented on the afternoon of November 30 at the Agustín de Betancourt Auditorium, following the 7th Global Forum of Engineering and Public Works, organized by the Association of Civil Engineers in collaboration with the Caminos Foundation, Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo (UIMP) and the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and the Urban Agenda. Andrés Sendagorta, President of the SENER Foundation and President of SENER, accepted the award on behalf of the SENER Foundation from Ricardo Martin de Bustamante, Vicepresident of the Spanish Association of Civil Engineers and trustee of the Caminos Foundation.

In his speech, Andrés Sendagorta wanted to highlight his “gratitude to the Caminos Foundation for this award for solidarity that bears the name of Rafael Izquierdo, one of the founding trustees of the SENER Foundation who helped us to make it a reality (…). SENER’s raison d’être has always been to provide a service to society and, to do that, you have to be good at what you do and make money doing it – otherwise it wouldn’t be a company. The raison d’être of the SENER Foundation is closely linked to SENER’s work of providing a service to society. And, of course, I would like to thank the volunteers of the SENER Foundation, the true protagonists and deserving recipients of this award.”

For its part, the 2020 Caminos Foundation sought to recognize the efforts of the SENER Foundation to turn engineering works into drivers of change against injustice, poverty and inequality, through projects such as improving the production process of granulated cane sugar in the Piura mountain range in Peru, and its activities to promote scientific research and engineering careers, such as “A challenge for science,” the SENER Foundation Award for the Best Doctoral Thesis in Engineering, or the SENER St3llar Foundation Awards, presented by the SENER Aeroespacial Chair at the Carlos III University of Madrid (UC3M).

The Rafael Izquierdo Award for Solidarity, which was presented for the seventh time, was created in honor of Professor Rafael Izquierdo, president of the Development and Assistance Foundation, in order to recognize those institutions, companies or individuals in the field of Civil, Transportation, Water and Environmental Engineering that have stood out for their work to promote solidarity and social engagement. It is backed by the Caminos Foundation in partnership with the Institute of Civil Engineers, the Association of Civil Engineers, the Development and Assistance Foundation, the School of Civil Engineering, the Foundation of the Spanish Roads Association, the Francisco Corell Foundation, the Juan-Miguel Villar Mir Foundation, the ACS Foundation, Transyt, the Infrastructure, Services, Creativity and Technology Forum, S.A., and the Transportation Engineering Forum.
